Fake Fan Bingbing on Reality Show Raises Eyebrows
By Cathy Wu
A dead ringer for superstar actress Fan Bingbing has recently drawn eyeballs as well as frowns on Chinese social media.
According to Baijia, 22-year-old "Super Girl 2016" contestant He Chengxi has undergone a string of cosmetic surgeries over the course of eight years to be a doppleganger of the celebrity, who is widely accepted as the classic Chinese beauty.
However, most netizens have frowned upon her plastic looks, saying it is unnatural. Some have even argued that it goes against filial piety to go under the knife. Further fueling public anger is the belief that the TV singing competition show has been rigged in He's favor. (Despite being eliminated in the first heat, He came back in a wildcard round and finally made it into the top ten in the Shenzhen division of the show, leading some to suspect that organizers included her because of the hype caused by her appearance).
In response to the critique, He Chengxi took to her Weibo account, writing: “How many girls out there do not get Botox shots or undergo cosmetic surgeries to fine-tune their face? Isn't it normal? Female stars in the showbiz would be ruined if there were no hyaluronic acid (a material commonly used in plastic surgeries), let alone us!”
He's boyfriend, Yu Xiaoquan, also happens to be a cosmetic surgeon in Taiwan. He posted photos of him and his girlfriend on Weibo, writing: “she is the most beautiful woman in my mind.”
He Chengxi is a spitting image of Fan Bingbing.
He Chengxi and her boyfriend posted a selfie, apparently in a cosmetic surgery hospital.
